Mario DeLaurentis

Battery Percussion Caption Head

CoEd Varsity Marching Band

Mario’s marching experience started at Upper Dublin High School. After graduating (1986), he marched with the Crossmen (1987) and the Westshoremen (1990 - 1993). The Westshoremen won high percussion at DCA Championships in 1991.

Over the next decade, he taught at several high school programs, holding a range of positions from head percussion instructor to percussion consultant. Some of the schools he’s taught include Hatboro-Horsham (including the Innovations Indoor Ensemble), Spring Grove, Cumberland Valley, Mechanicsburg, Souderton, and Upper Dublin. The Innovations Indoor Ensemble won three CIDA percussion championship titles while he was on staff. After leaving Hatboro-Horsham, Mario moved into the WGI Independent Indoor Percussion arena, for the inception of the Riptide Indoor Percussion Ensemble (2000-2002) and then moved to United Percussion (2004).

Mario earned his drum corps teaching experience with the Crossmen in 1994 and 1995, also doing some consulting for the Westshoremen during these years.

After a hiatus, Mario returned to WGI in 2014 to teach Aftermath Percussion, where he is currently the battery coordinator.

On a more personal note, he is an active drum set player and has played in several local bands in both the Philadelphia and Harrisburg areas. Preferring to play mostly rock and rhythm & blues, Mario also enjoys playing jazz and world music type grooves. Some of the groups that he played in did minor studio time, cutting demo CDs and tapes.
