In a display of just how good an athlete he is, Ahmir Johnson's 'worst' event proved better than other's best. Unable to generate speed down the runway due to a hamstring injury sustained in February, his triple jump (second at states last spring 47-0.25,) and long jump (Wiss all-time best 23-4.75) were severely limited. The slower approach in the high jump became more manageable as the season progressed. Clearing 6-0, 6-2 and 6-4 (equaling his pre-injury personal best) on his first attempts proved enough to get him onto the podium. Ahmir's 6th place medal marks coach Floyd Garis' 19th state medal garnered by Wiss athletes in the 4 jumping events. State medalists: Triple Jump - 7 (State Champs Ken Jones 1987 and Folarin Ijelu 2008), Pole Vault - 5 (State Champs Brad Turley 1973, Doug Garis 1979), High Jump - 5, Long Jump - 2.
