So close! In the pre-lims of the 200 meter dash on Friday's SOL American Conference Championships at Plymouth Whitemarsh, the auto timer read 21.65, one one-hundred of a second off the 21.64 (converted from a 21.4 hand time) set by Steve Smith back in 1984. Since Darien won't be running this distance at Districts next weekend, opting instead for the 100M along with 4x1 and 4x4 relay duty, Saturday's final would be his last shot at the record. He took no chances as he began making up staggers immediately. Hitting the line clear of the field by some 5 meters, the clock stopping at 21.55. It's also #2 Pa. so far this season (Terence Laird, Coatesville 21.54). Soph Rahsheed Wright finished second in the race, his 22.13 a personal best.
