On Saturday, our distance runners took full advantage of the world class facility that is the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. All ten who stepped on the track set personal bests including Matt Maiale. Working his way up from the back of the pack during the early stages of the 2 mile run, he closed with a flurry, to take 2nd in his division. After the 'fast heat' concluded, his time of 9:37.64 was good enough for 5th overall. It converts to 8:55.01 for 3000M (SQS 8:58.43).
Rahsheed Wright sprinted his way into the 55M final with the 5th fastest qualifier (out of 64). However, a less-than-perfect start cost him in the final, placing 8th.
Other notables included Nathan Leung who finished 1st in his division (White) of the mile while chopping a full 9 seconds off his previous best finishing in 4:36.65. Also winning his division (Blue) was Sam Klugherz posting 4:54.89, also a personal best.
