Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. William Penn Charter School

Game Date
Mar 26, 2018
Score
TROJANS: 11
WILLIAM PENN CHARTER SCHOOL: 10

Wissahickon 11, Penn Charter 10
Freshman Quinn Gaffey scored with 4:18 remaining in regulation to give the Trojans an 11-9 lead, and that goal loomed large when Penn Charter scored with 1:38 left in the contest and then won the ensuing draw.
Goalie Jaclyn Staub came up with a huge save of a shot with 32 seconds remaining that would have knotted the score.
“Jac had a huge save for us,” coach Jamie Kane said. “Our defense was solid in the second half and found a great rhythm together.
“Losing some of the 50/50 balls really hurt us throughout the game.”
Sam Intieri scored five goals and Gaffey added three goals and two assists to lead the Trojans. Sophia Chiodo-Ortiz finished with a goal and two assists while Kelly Dickson added a goal and a single assist. Brooke Berry scored a single goal.
Staub finished with her eight saves on the day.
“Maddie Hippensteal was all over the field for us, taking the draw and making connections in transition,” Kane said. “Lauren Donofrio was solid on defense and had about three caused turnovers and brought the ball out of the defensive end several times. She was great.
“Naomi Bram was also solid on defense and really hustled to make sure she was in a good position to help the team.”
Wissahickon (1-0) will be on the road at Great Valley on Tuesday.
